Varying annual rainfall could affect Florida ranchers Naples Daily News Researchers at the University of Florida are using a $500,000 grant to study potential future effects of climate change on grasslands and pastures, important ecosystems for the state’s cattle ranchers. The grant, provided by the United States Department of Agriculture, will help UF’s Jiangxiao Qiu, an assistant professor at the university’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, as well as the Archbold Biological Station in Highlands County to study future changes in climate, specifically changing rainfall and seasonality to see how if affects those grassy ecosystems and the benefits they provide.
