Organizers of a campaign to recall independent Kaohsiung City Councilor Huang Jie (黃捷) yesterday held a parade to drum up support ahead of the vote next month.
Campaign spokesperson Hsu Shang-hsien (徐尚賢) urged Fongshan District (鳳山) residents to vote to recall Huang on Feb. 6, to “teach the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) a lesson.”
Wecare Kaohsiung founder Aaron Yin (尹立), who in June last year initiated an effort to recall then-Kaohsiung mayor Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) of the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT), said the campaign to recall Huang was an effort to seek revenge for Han’s removal.

KMT to use recall success to drive pork referendum

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) is hoping to use the momentum from its successful recall of a Taoyuan city councilor to drive its referendum on the importation of pork containing ractopamine, while eyeing its next recall target, a party official said on Sunday.
Taoyuan City Councilor Wang Hao-yu (王浩宇) of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) was recalled on Saturday in a vote with a turnout rate of 28 percent in Taoyuan’s Jhongli District (中壢).
Although the victory boosted morale among the pan-blue camp, it is likely not replicable elsewhere, the KMT official said.

Housing price index up 1.43% in Q3

The nation’s housing price index in the third quarter of last year continued to increase, rising 1.43 percent from the second quarter to 106.89, the Ministry of the Interior said yesterday.
Among the six special municipalities, the housing price index in Tainan reported the largest quarterly increase at 2.56 percent, followed by Taoyuan at 2.12 percent and Taichung at 2.05 percent, the ministry said in a statement on its Web site.
