Subscriber only AS a club legend, Danny Coburn was always going to retain strong ties to the Ipswich Jets. It s just a good place to be and good people, the former Jets captain said, still holding the record for most state league games (258) played at the club. However, the former on-field leader and loyal servant has extra reasons for spending time with the Jets this season. Apart from a valuable mentoring role helping Jets Colts coaches Chris Ash and Josh Seage, Coburn is running water for the Ipswich Intrust Super Cup team when needed. I ve just been working more with Ashy and Seagy, Coburn said of being able to contribute in football life after being a highly respected player.
Michael Nunn THE Ipswich Jets conquered their first win of the season in fine style against the CQ Capras. The Jets held the ball for huge amounts of time and the Capras chased the Jets all over the field trying to stop the momentum. Ipswich had the ball for 31 minutes compared to the Capras 16. The Jets completed their sets and Josh Cleeland s kicking game was a thing of beauty as he turned the Capras around and got the Jets five repeat sets. The Jets made a staggering 2066 metres of ground in the round of Intrust Super Cup games. Souths won by 50 and only made 1635 metres.

Subscriber only BEING a former state touch football representative, Josh Leisemann developed a skilful passing game with a burst of speed. However, he also credits two decades in the Brothers Ipswich rugby league system for helping him secure his latest captaincy opportunity. Fresh from Brothers season-opening 36-0 shutout of Fassifern, five-eight Leisemann remains a proud clubman, happy to lead alongside 2019 grand final-winning skipper Wes Conlon. It s my first time as captain this year. I m pretty honoured, Leisemann, 27, said. The Ipswich born and bred footballer shared why he has remained loyal for more than 20 years. It s just the family vibe, the culture and its professionalism, he said.

Subscriber only HEAD coach Keiron Lander paid tribute to retiring winger Peter Gubb as the Ipswich Jets medical team prepared for a busy week. The winless Jets were left with a number of injury concerns after tonight s latest 36-14 Intrust Super Cup loss to the Brisbane Tigers at the North Ipswich Reserve. In a game marred by rain in the final 40 minutes, the Jets were unable to capitalise on a strong first half finish. Among the players needing treatment were centre Ben White (cut under his eye), five-eight Josh Cleeland, fullback Jayden Connors (ankle) and substitute Hugh Sedger (concussion).
