Maritzburg United head coach Ernst Middendorp has secured the signing of goalkeeper Marcel Engelhardt from Bundesliga 2 side Eintracht Braunschweig.
Engelhardt, 27, has signed a two-year deal with the Team of Choice and is expected to assume the role as the first-choice stopper under his compatriot Middendorp.
Zambia international Sebastian Mwange, Bongani Mpandle and Jethren Barr have all been used between the sticks this season since the departure of Richard Ofori to Orlando Pirates. I m happy to be here, my new team-mates seem nice, the weather is quite hot as well - a big difference to Germany, I came here from snow, the former Hamburg keeper told the club s website.
Maritzburg United are believed to be looking to bring back their former targetman as they aim to get out of the relegation zone.
The Team of Choice remain in the relegation zone after their last two losses and this website understands that Ernst Middendorp is already planning to beef up his squad to make sure they get out of that position.
Evans Rusike, who is currently out of favour at SuperSport United, is understood to be one of the German coach s targets according to sources close to the club.
It is also believed that new Zambian goalkeeper Sebastian Mwange – who was seen as Richard Ofori s replacement after the Ghanian joined Orlando Pirates – could be moved on as Jethren Barr currently enjoys more minutes.
Gavin Hunt s Kaizer Chiefs as
Judas Moseamedi scored two second-half goals in a
2-0 win at FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The first half proved to be a fairly low-key affair with clear-cut goal-scoring chances hard to come by.
The first chance of note arrived in the eighth minute when Maritzburg s Riyaaz Ismail tried his luck from outside the box, only to see his speculative shot drift wide of the left-hand post.
Chiefs, meanwhile, created a handful of good chances but a lack of cutting edge in front of goal meant that many of those chances went to waste.
Siyabonga Ngezana let fly from all of 35 yards out in the 24th minute but his shot flew harmlessly over the bar, before heading over from a Bernard Parker set-piece delivery just after the half-hour mark.
