what you re doing. this is beside my own personal calling to tell this story, it s birthed by the numbers you saw. people are losing interest in religion. near losing interest in faith at record numbers. i don t think that means their hearts are still not seeking something bigger than themselves. when we hear from people all over the world and particularly in this country is that the show, as you said is a game changer for them. what they re saying more often than anything else is i ve had maybe a bad experience with church or the media s portrayal of what church is or what religion is has soured me on it. your show is reminding me that this can be about a personal relationship with jesus or maybe my faith or relationship with jesus doesn t have to look like wow, how it s been portrayed. martha: i should mention this, you and i are about to have a continued conversation,
verse that you see at football games. john 3:16. in our show, we make it matter. know what is at stake. when you get to that point, it s more impactful. that s the key to the show. that s the secret sauce. you, as you watch it, can identify with the people around jesus. you recognize, wow, i have the same questions, concerns about doubts that they had 2,000 years ago. maybe the answer is the same as it was 2,000 years ago. martha: i ve said to a lot of people when you watch it, stick with it. you re meeting the chosen. you re meeting the people in their on lives and contexts that jesus is choosing. it s a fascinating way to tell the story. you saw the number and what s going on in the country. tell me how you see that number? you also see this enormous response to the chosen and
way that we look at the life of jesus and the way that we talk about it and the way we understand the gospel. so i thank you first of all. thank you very much. thank you for having me on. it s an honor. one of the things that is so great about what you ve done with this series is that it makes jesus kind of a regular guy, but god. that s a tough thing to do. i mean, this could have been a complete disaster, right? but it s not. it s just the tone is so perfect and jonathan is so perfect. so i want to give people at home a sense that haven t seen it of just a feel for what it s like, this is one of my favorite scenes. it s the conversation in season one between nickidemus and jesus. watch. you should have eternal life.
all righteous government, all authority. and the kingdom also sets the means of all government and authority. for jesus doesn t grasp power or hold on to status. the king of kings, jesus christ was anointed not to serve, but to be served. he creates the unchangeable law of good authority. that with the privilege of power comes the duty to serve. service is love in action. we see active love in our care for the most vulnerable. the way we nurture and encourage the young in the conservation of the natural world.
jesus christ according to luke. glory be to thee, o lord. jesus came to nazareth, where he had been brought up, and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day and stood up for to read. and there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet isaiah. and when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, the spirit of the lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. he hath sent me to heal the broken-hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the lord. and he closed the book and gave
