The City of Winnipeg celebrated International Women’s Day on Monday by unveiling a plaque honouring the women who’ve served on Winnipeg city council over the last century.
The plaque holds pictures of all women who’ve held civic office in Winnipeg, including Jessie Kirk, Winnipeg’s first female city councillor (1920), Susan A. Thompson, Winnipeg’s first female mayor (1992), and the city’s first female speaker, Devi Sharma (2013).
