Community split on where Summit County should land in congressional district map

Photo by Ashley Low / Ashley Low Photography Community members, town staff and elected officials are split on where they want to see Summit County fall in Colorado’s redrawn congressional districts. On Saturday, July 31, the Colorado Independent Redistricting Commissions visited the Summit County Community and Senior Center in Frisco to hear testimony from over 30 people. Individuals from Summit and surrounding counties were given the chance to speak about the preliminary maps for congressional and legislative districts drawn by the nonpartisan committee. Colorado is one of six states that will get at least one new congressional seat in 2022 due to population gains. In June, the nonpartisan committee released preliminary maps, but these are to be tweaked once the latest U.S. Census data is released, which is expected to happen later this month.

COVID VACCINE: Carter Healthcare makes inbound vaccine visits

From large pods to home delivery, some local groups are taking the COVID-19 vaccine to the homebound. A long-time metro facility is answering the needs of those who can’t travel to get their COVID-19 shot. Nurses are taking the vaccine on the road to those who are confined to their homes. Carter Healthcare has been administering the vaccine to its patients since March and wants to broaden the effort to unvaccinated seniors. “Our patients are among the highest risk throughout the pandemic,” Carter Healthcare CEO Jessica Hoover said. Carter Healthcare is a home health and hospice company that has been serving the elderly community for more than three decades. Hoover said the focus this pandemic year is “to get to the people that are homebound, that are not able to get out and get resources.
