Skill game parlors under new zoning restrictions in Canton Township

CANTON TWP. Township officials adopted new zoning regulations for skill game parlors that will require them to have a state license before opening. The new regulations also parlor operators to get a township conditional-use permit and have their businesses in industrially zoned districts. Canton Township has seven skill game parlors in its jurisdiction. And officials are look to pursue legal action against four skill game operations. That action is pending, and township Law Director Charles Hall is collaborating with the Ohio Casino Control Commission on the matter. The issue is whether the four parlors are properly licensed. Under Ohio law, in order to operate a skill game, you need to have a license, said Jessica Franks, public relations officer for the Ohio Casino Control Commission. When the commission receives an application, we do a criminal, legal and financial review.
