Thousands of Utah state employees have been working from home for months during the pandemic and, under a bill that cleared the Legislature without a single dissenting vote, more will be asked to do so on bad air days.
SB15, sponsored by Sen. Daniel McCay, R-Riverton, would notify eligible “surge” state employees ahead of mandatory action days, identified by The Division of Air Quality when an air quality dip is predicted to stay off the roads and work remotely to reduce the Wasatch Front’s air pollution.
Jeff Mottishaw, of the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget, says the effort is also meant to be a model others could follow.

Pittsylvania Career and Technical Center (PCTC) students will soon have the opportunity to attend classes four days per week, as the Pittsylvania County School Board voted to allow for the school to operate under âPhase IIâ of the schoolâs re-entry plan.
In its current phase, the plan requires that all students attend a minimum of two days per week, and students with transportation have the option to attend four days per week. Phase II would require four days of instruction per week for PCTC students.Â
In a presentation to the school board, PCTC Principal Jessica Dalton and Director of Career and Technical Education Angela Rigney stressed the current deficits in lab hours and instructional outcomes, as students do have clinical or other hours they must meet in order to meet Virginia Department of Education competencies or Danville Community College competencies, of which there have not been waivers for.
