Doyle-Schnacker and her daughter Kami Arnett had their Fourth of July parade float at H and 10th streets and were watching others take their places. “This is the year I would like to watch (the parade),” Doyle-Schnacker said. “But I know people are counting on us to do it, it’s almost like a community service.”

In fact, despite the road closure at Last Chance Grade, visitors have already arrived in Del Norte County, Cindy Vosburg, executive director of the Crescent City-Del Norte County Chamber of Commerce, told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Wednesday. Motels have been at “100 percent capacity since April,” Vosburg said. The chamber’s visitor center has seen more than 100 people every day for a few weeks Vosburg said the numbers are greater than those in 2018 and 2019.

File Photo: Jessica Cejnar Previously: ### A second tabulation of ballots following a miscount showed that the Crescent Fire Protection District eked out a narrow victory in its most recent effort to pass a benefit assessment. The results were flipped from the previous count with the benefit assessment effort claiming a victory of $17.80 over those that voted against it, Fire Chief Bill Gillespie told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Tuesday. However, the results are preliminary and will be taken to the Crescent Fire Protection Board of Directors for certification on July 12, he said.

Del Norte County Sheriff’s deputies have confirmed the identity of a Crescent City woman whose body was found inside a barn that burned down near Howland Hill Road and Bertsch Avenue on May 2. Deputies are investigating the death of Tamera Sanders, 29, as suspicious “until we know otherwise,” Undersheriff Randy Waltz told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Tuesday. The cause of death is undetermined, he said.
