CHESTERTONÂ â Kiana Oelling had a message for her teammates as Valparaiso geared up to face Portage in the first round of Class 4A Sectional 2 at Chesterton on Tuesday. The last thing I said in the locker room before we came out was, Guys, I did not prepare for this to be my last game, Oelling said. I said, I have not prepared for it. I m not ready for this to be my last time playing. So basically, we just had the mindset that we re moving on.
Oelling, the Vikings senior leader, poured in a game-high 20 points to guide her squad to a 46-36 victory over the Indians.
It wasn t the outcome Trinity Thompson wanted.
Michigan City fell 85-40 at Crown Point on Monday night, but during that lopsided loss, the Wolves star forward reached yet another milestone.
Thompson, who spent her freshman year at West Side before transferring to Michigan City, finished that game with 19 points and 15 rebounds to surpass 1,000 rebounds in her prep career. Competition was briefly stopped near the end of the first half so that the senior could be recognized for her latest feat. I didn t even know that I was hitting 1,000 (rebounds), Thompson said. . I go into every game knowing that I have to attack the boards, and there s no way around that. As many times as I go up for the rebound, I just make sure to box out and battle hard.
MOROCCO â Rensselaer Central snapped a five-game skid Tuesday night, beating host North Newton, 55-41.
The Lady Bombers improve to 7-11 with the victory, while North Newton falls to 6-7 overall.
The Bombers got off to a solid start, taking a double-digit lead early against the Spartans, who got 10 points each from Danielle Hinch and Heidi Schleman.
Cayci Ehlinger added nine points with four rebounds two assists and three steals and Grace Hollopeter had four assists and two steals.
Bulldogs too strong for KVHS
CROWN POINT â Class 4A No. 2 ranked Crown Point sped to a 19-2 lead after the first quarter and were never threatened in beating Kankakee Valley, 70-30, on Tuesday night.
