Student hosts surf camp for youngsters
Cathedral Catholic High School junior Mia Boggs recently created and held a “Sunshine Surf Camp” for children with special needs on the beach south of Powerhouse Park in Del Mar. She chose to be a mentor this year for the “Options Program.” Once a week, she mentors another teen who has Down syndrome. Mia intends to pursue a career in special education. A member of the CCHS varsity surf team, she had the idea to combine assisting special-needs children and her love of surfing. Her Surf Camp hosted nine youngsters (with parents) and helped them learn to surf and boogie board, build sand castles, connect and just have some beach fun. A second Sunshine Surf Camp is scheduled for Aug. 7 in Del Mar. Contact Mia about the camp at instagram.com/sunshinesurfcamp, or email sunshinesurfcamp@gmail.com.
