VICTORIA A dog that was missing in the Vancouver Island bush for more than two weeks is now safely back with his owner. Keno is a four-year-old husky-shepherd cross that was reported missing on the morning of Jan. 26 on Mount Prevost in the Cowichan Valley. He saw an elk and he took off real quick and I lost him out of my hands, owner Jesse McMaster told CTV News one week into his search for his beloved pet. I stayed out there for another three to four days, said the distraught dog owner. I slept in my car and took work off.
The four-year-old husky-shepherd mix went missing during a hike on Mount Prevost on Jan. 26, when he spotted an elk. “He actually chased it straight up the side of the mountain. He got away from me, like slipped out of my hands. And I wasn’t fast enough,” McMaster said. He ran after Keno, but couldn’t catch up to him as the dog tore up the side of the mountain. McMaster spent the next four nights sleeping in his vehicle on top of the mountain. He filled his days bushwhacking around the mountain and trudging through snow with friends looking for any sign of Keno.
A Duncan man has put his life on hold to find his best friend, Keno. Keno is Jesse McMaster’s four-year-old husky-shepherd cross, who went missing one week ago Monday on Mt. Prevost in the Cowichan Valley.
