taught how to survive. i got all my cooking stuff at the house, the pan, all the stuff that i need. whatever i can do for these people here if i can, i ll be back over this way to help. orlando has been inundated with heavy flooding. residents at the orlando area nursing homes were among hundreds rescued after floodwaters started to rise this morning. joining us now from orlando is nbc news correspondent jesse kersh. jesse, what is the situation there at this hour? at this point lawrence, we are still dealing with communities that are at least partially submerged. that s hard to see because it s dark behind me. you can see those yellow reflective signs. those are street signs that have poles obviously attached to them, but right now they just look like they are floating in the water because
the orlando area. at this point, we ve thankfully not seen people with flashlights screaming for help. but it will certainly burnt treacherous to wade through this water. i can tell you a least one man came by here and he said he was looking for a friend who lived in this area and couldn t get through to him. but obviously so many people are without power, and there should be some cars submerged, so people probably couldn t have charge the phone so hopefully that s what we re doing here. jesse kersh thank you for the update. stay safe for a. fort myers of course is one of the hardest hit cities and all of florida. long term residents there say is the worst storm surge they ve seen in their lives.
