A survey published last month found that a majority of correctional officers at the Allegheny County Jail feel undervalued, undertrained and overworked. The findings were the focus of a board meeting last month which adjourned early after participants broke out in a protest song.

A 60-year-old man booked for retail theft on Monday was found unresponsive Thursday afternoon. The man was in a detox protocol after testing positive for drugs in his system. It's the second death this month involving an incarcerated person who'd tested positive for drugs.
