Jervis Middleton was fired from the Lexington Police Department on Friday
He was accused of contacting a BLM activist last May and giving her details about tactics police intended to use at a George Floyd protest
The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council unanimously voted to fire Middleton after determining that his actions put fellow officers in jeopardy
But Middleton s attorney argued that the information he provided was covered by free speech and that he didn t put anyone at risk
The attorney also claimed Middleton had been frustrated because his complaints about racism within the LPD were ignored
