The Jersey Landlords Association (JLA) says a proposed new landlord licensing scheme is a concern to anyone involved in property.The new proposition, submitted by Deputy Rob Ward, has been amended since Deputy John Young s version was rejected by the States last year. Jersey s Environment Minister had proposed creating a register of all rented dwellings, and charging the owners an annual fee to be on it.

Credit: ITV Channel TV The Jersey Tenants Forum wants evictions and rent increases to be banned like they were in the first lockdown. The Forum is arguing that recent rises in coronavirus infections and business restrictions have resulted further job losses and insecurity, so renters need to be supported again. It says rent freezes and a ban on evictions by social housing providers should also be in place for private tenants.
