Brexit news: Jersey fishermen 'helpless' as French vessels plunder Channel waters | Politics | News

The new position, announced by the EU Commission last month, prevents scallops, clams, cockles, oysters and mussels known as bivalve molluscs from being exported to the bloc. In a statement today, Mr Thompson said: “‘The situation remains extremely tense and anger amongst fishermen has reached boiling point. “The EU recently downgraded Jersey’s clean waters to category B, resulting in Jersey catches being impounded by French Customs and Jersey’s fleet having to remain tied up.” The claims are the latest in a furious row between the British Crown Dependency and France over post-Brexit fishing rights.   Jersey is implementing a new licencing regime on May 1 (Image: Getty)

Trade deal marks 'promising new era' for sustainable management of Jersey's fisheries | Channel

play-icon Created with Sketch. Jersey s involvement in a new UK-EU trade agreement marks a promising new era for the island s fishing fleet, according to a scrutiny panel. The Environment, Housing and Infrastructure Panel has recommended Jersey remain part of the Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA), as it provides an opportunity to preserve and enhance its marine environment - as well as tackle ongoing issues about access to shared fishing waters. The report says Jersey’s inclusion in the agreement would mean that management of its waters would no longer be shared with France, as was the case under the Granville Bay Treaty.
