Big crowd stands in support of AAPI community at 'Stop Asian Hate' rally in Jersey City

Hudson County View A big crowd stood in support of the Asian American Pacific Islander community at a “Stop Asian Hate” rally at Jersey City City Hall that had appearances from leaders statewide. “In America, hate has no home here, and in Jersey City … hate definitely does not have a home here!” Jersey City Councilman-at-Large Rolando Lavarro, one of the event organizers, said at the rally – which drew a crowd of around 200 people. Lavarro, along with Ward E Councilman James Solomon (who was among supporters today), sponsored a resolution condemning hate against the AAPI community last month, which was approved unanimously.

Why is Jersey City shutting down outdoor dining structures?

Why is Jersey City shutting down outdoor dining structures? Updated Dec 14, 2020; Facebook Share Jersey City officials have shut down eight outdoor dining structures this month, an apparent crackdown on the outdoor “parklets” that have sprung up in response to COVID-19 restrictions. The crackdown, which appears to be in response to outdoor dining guidelines issued by the state Department of Community Affairs last month, is likely to inject further uncertainty into an already anxious time for the industry. An estimated one-third of New Jersey small businesses have closed during the pandemic, with restaurants and bars hit particularly hard. And, after the governors of New York and Pennsylvania ordered a halt to indoor dining last week, some fear that New Jersey will be next.
