Dinagyang activities cancelled in Iloilo City

San Juan City, Valenzuela City, Vigan, Caloocan City and Iloilo City all confirmed their separate agreements with the pharmaceutical company on Sunday, many of them through social media posts. The local government of Valenzuela said its deal was for 640,000 doses of the vaccine. With the AstraZeneca vaccines, 320,000 individuals will be vaccinated, which is 70% of the target population of the city (18 years old below are excluded), said the post.

Iloilo City looks back at pandemic year with street art

Across SM City Iloilo, artists collectively known as Baysulangpu (an anagram for the Hiligaynon word of pula nga subay or red ants) painted a 100-meter mural to look back at the year that was. The creation of the mural with lead artist  Edmar Colmo represents the weeklong challenges and new discoveries in daily life. “It’s our life from Monday to Sunday as Covid-19 refuses to disappear,” says Arnold Almacen, one of the other artists and also a photojournalist.

Medical frontliners are modern-day Rizal

ILOILO CITY, Dec. 31 (PIA) - Medical frontline workers who have been providing life-saving support and protection to people in this time of the pandemic are considered as the ‘modern-day Jose Rizal’. In his message during the commemoration of the 124th death anniversary of the country’s national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas said that these medical workers, together with other individuals who work hard to ensure the safety of every citizen, are modern-day heroes. “They have been working tirelessly, risking their own safety in order to combat COVID-19 pandemic,” he said. Treñas said that the city government have utilized virtual platforms to inspire everyone especially the young generation to be like Rizal, who is an embodiment of bravery and courage of the Filipino people.
