Is there any bigger X-factor in this NFL Draft than Lance? As a redshirt freshman in 2019, he started all 16 games and led North Dakota State to their second straight FCS championship. That season, he threw 28 touchdowns and zero . that s right, zero . interceptions. Lance also rushed for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns. He won the Walter Payton Award (FCS Player of the Year) and Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman of the year) and everyone was keyed on watching him in 2020. Except, North Dakota State postponed the 2020 season, with the Bison playing in one exhibition game against Central Arkansas. In that game, Lance threw the ball 50 times for just 149 yards (and two TDs) and ran for 143 yards and another two scores. Is he the next Carson Wentz, who also went to North Dakota State? If he is, does that mean he s more like the Wentz won was an MVP candidate early on his career or the one that lost his job and was unceremoniously ousted this past season?

The transfer portal has struck again and the University of North Dakota is the team being hit just days ahead of their opening round FCS playoff game against Missouri State.
Redshirt sophomore right guard Kyle Hergel is heading to the transfer portal. Hergel was named FCS Independent’s Newcomer of the Year in 2019, after starting all 12 games. He played in 5 games this spring as well.
UND head coach Bubba Schweigert said freshman Easton Kilty will get the opportunity to start against the Bears on Saturday.
“I’m excited for Easton Kilty,” said Fighting Hawks senior offensive lineman Ryan Tobin. “He’s a younger guy but I know coach Pawlak (offensive line coach) will get all of us together and will get it going again. I don’t see any issues.”

On Wednesday, Pro Football Hall of Fame writer John Clayton released his third first-round mock draft via the
Washington Post. Clayton s prediction for the first-ever draft pick of Denver Broncos GM George Paton is one of the most coveted quarterbacks in the 2021 NFL draft class.
9. Denver Broncos: QB Trey Lance, North Dakota State
This is a likely landing spot for a QB, either with Denver or a team that trades into this spot. The Broncos need to add competition for Drew Lock, but could consider [Northwestern OT Rashawn] Slater if he drops to this spot.
Although trades were not factored in Clayton’s mock draft, analysts have speculated that at least one QB could drop to the Broncos at the No. 9 overall pick. If that daydream becomes a reality, Clayton strongly feels that Paton will handpick a QB.
