Nigerian athletes, Enoch Adegoke and quarter-milers Nse Uko Imaobong and Patience Okon-George will have another chance to beat the 10.05 seconds (100m) and 51.35 seconds (400m) qualification standard for the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday when they compete at the 2021 USA Track & Field (USATF) Open Meet in Dallas, Texas.
The trio will lead a couple of other Nigerian athletes currently on training and qualification tour in the United States as the countdown to the June 29 Olympics qualifying deadline begins.
Adegoke is the fastest home-based athlete this season with his 10.16s performance in January in Akure which topped the world list for a few weeks.

Nigerian quarter-miler, Imaobong Nse Uko, 17, has been listed as the youngest athlete to compete at the World Athletics Relays scheduled to hold in Silesia, Poland between May 1 and 2. Spain’s Angel David Rodriguez, who turns 41 later this month, is the oldest athlete entered for the competition.
Nigeria is to compete in five relay events that includes the men and women’s 4x100m and the 4x400m while the fifth event is the mixed relay.
Imaobong who is the former National Youth Games 400m queen with a 52.07 this season is to join the likes of Patience Okon-George, Uwemedino Akpan Abasiono, Opeyemi D. Oke, Glory Patrick and Osaretin Usembo in the women’s 4x400m relay team at the two-day relay fiesta in Poland.
In boxing, Ondo State heavyweight boxer, Adedeji Adegbola knocked out his opponent, Oluwafemi Adetoye of Yobe state in a record 15 seconds of their first-round heavyweight boxing bout.
With the win at the Oba Akenzuwa cultural centre, Adegbola has qualified for the semi-finals of the heavyweight category and placed him in the medals range, alongside five teammates vying in other weight categories.
Similarly, Rivers State have increased their medal haul with Stella Kingsley winning 3 Gold medals in the Women 49kg Weightlifting event.
Stella snatched 74kg, Clean and Jerked 105kg a record in (49KG) to pick all the medals.
In the same vein, Team Lagos men have defeated Team Delta in Cricket 136 runs to 89 runs all out in 21 overs.
Nigeria’s Olympic swimmer, Rachael Tonjor has led Team Edo to win a gold medal in the 4x100medley relay women.
The feat brings their total number of gold in swimming to four at the national sports festival, a huge improvement from their performance at the Abuja 2018 games where they failed to win a medal.
Edo were stripped of medals in Abuja as a result of the double registration of their captain Tonjor and Faith Edorodion.
Team delta finished second in the event while Bayelsa claimed Bronze in the event.
In weightlifting, Rivers state showed class in the 49kg event as Stella Kingsley dominated the snatch, clean, and jerk class to claim all three gold medals.
