The Justice Ginsburg lecture Series Features distinguished leaders who like Justice Ginsburg have committed their lives to furthering equality and human rights. It is an opportunity for our graduating students to hear from a giant in the law as she reflects on her career and offers advice to them as they graduate. And we are truly fortunate that the first speaker in this series will be, of course, Justice Ginsburg. Another round of applause. [applause] Justice Ginsburg is a legend in the law and in life. She has served with the greatest distinction on the Supreme Court andthe past 25 years, even if she had never been a judge or justice, she would still have learned a great place in legal history for her groundbreaking work in her advocacy to promote gender equality. A great justice, a great advocate, and who else has come become a cultural icon . [laughter] Justice Ginsburg has been honored by scores of followers with, to name only a few, a rap nickname. Whether you could do it all, and your fatherinlaw, martys father, was actually. You could tell the story better than i could. Tremendously supportive always. He said, ruth, if you dont want to go to law school, you have the best reason in the world and no one will think the less of you. But if you really want to go to law school and become a lawyer, well, stop feeling sorry for yourself, and you will find a way. That advice has stood me in good stead my entire life. The question is do i want this enough. If the answer is yes, i find a way. Justice breyer has always been remarkably generous with his time in supporting society projects. In less than two weeks on june 6 at our annual meeting, he will be delivering the societys 41st annual lecture. Some background on Justice Breyer. He was born in San Francisco and after stanford, he came east. He has a ba from oxford. His law degree at harvard and went on to clerk for justice goldberg. He served with great distinction in the justice department. He served as chief counsel to the Senate Judiciary committee and served in other similar roles during that time of his career. He has taught at Harvard Law School at the Harvard Kennedy school of government, at the college of law in sydney, australia, and the university of rome. In 1980, president carter appointed Justice Breyer to the United States court of appeals for the first circuit, and he was the chief judge there from 19901994. In 1994, president clinton nominated him as an associate justice of the Supreme Court to succeed ju
