Mackinac Island winter ferry delights with holiday lights, Christmas tree on deck

For 65 years, the ferry known as “The Mighty Huron” has been a staple of Mackinac Island life, motoring residents and visitors between Michigan’s most popular tourism destination and its mainland ports. More recently, it’s been Star Line ferry’s winter workhorse. Star Line holds the winter contract for the island, and the steel-hulled Huron is the ferry that runs during the winter and early spring seasons.
As in past years, Mackinac Island ferry fans were delighted recently to see pictures showing The Mighty Huron decked out for the holiday season. Strings of lights give the ferry its festive glow as it crosses the Straits of Mackinac to and from the island, and a little Christmas tree adorns the bow near the pilot house.
