OGLESBY - Area teens are earning a degree from college and their high school diploma the same year thanks to a unique community college program. This Sunday,
(The Center Square) – Enrollment at community colleges in Illinois declined during the pandemic.
Statistics from the Illinois Community College Board show spring enrollment at the state’s 48 schools dropped by 14.2%.
Jerry Corcoran, president of Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby, said community colleges are trying to weather the storm.
“Enrollments are down, doing everything we can with a nice blend of face-to-face and online, and doing what we can to be accommodating for those who want to get the vaccines,” said Corcoran.
Corcoran said his school’s enrollment was down just over 11% this spring compared to last.
It is a similar story at Heartland Community College in Normal.

OGLESBY – The Illinois Valley Society for Human Resource Management (IVSHRM) has established a scholarship with the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation for IVCC sophomores pursuing a career in human resources.
The Illinois Valley SHRM Future Human Resources Leader Scholarship will be aimed at assisting students living in-district who’ve obtained at least a 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated an interest in human resources in ways such as membership in SHRM, volunteerism or work experience in HR or attendance at an HR workshop.
