Perhaps realizing they want their own  The Last Dance, Hulu has ordered an “expansive docuseries” that focuses on the Los Angeles Lakers franchise. The series comes from Lakers’ CEO and controlling owner Jeanie Buss, Lakers senior executive Linda Rambis, and director Antoine Fuqua. Hulu made the announcement today, revealing that the nine-part original series – set to premiere in 2022 – “details the past four decades of the Lakers, and contains colorful and emotional new interviews from over 35 people within the organization, including the Buss family, legendary coaches Pat Riley and Phil Jackson, and NBA Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, and team captain Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, among numerous other current and former players. Lakers, Hulu teaming up on 9-part documentary series By City News Service article LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Hulu announced Monday that a new nine-part original docuseries chronicling the history of the Los Angeles Lakers franchise will join the video streaming service s lineup next year. The as-yet-untitled project comes to Hulu from Lakers CEO and controlling owner Jeanie Buss and director Antoine Fuqua, in association with Fuqua Films, Haven Entertainment and the Los Angeles Media Fund. The series will detail the past four decades of the franchise, and contain new interviews from more than 35 people within the organization, including the Buss family, former coaches Pat Riley and Phil Jackson, and NBA Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, Shaquille O Neal and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, among numerous other current and former players.

On the heels of Netflix’s hit basketball docuseries The Last Dance, Hulu is following suit with an expansive series of its own on the sport. The Disney-owned streamer has picked up an untitled nine-part docuseries about the Los Angeles Lakers franchise, which is scheduled to air in 2022. Lakers’ CEO and controlling owner Jeanie Buss will executive produce the series along with director Antoine Fuqua. Haven Entertainment’s Kevin Mann, Michael Mann and Brendan Bragg will also serve as executive producers, along with Los Angeles Media Fund’s Jeffrey Soros and Simon Horsman, and Lakers senior executive Linda Rambis. Emmy Award-winning editor Jake Pushinsky and executive producer and writer Steven Leckart will also work on the series.
