Following a presentation by county fire officials, media members and the National Weather Service (NWS), the Pennington County Commissioners approving a resolution that regulates fireworks in its jurisdiction. Under South Dakota law, the county can prohibit fireworks that are being used outside the boundaries of municipalities in areas where the fire danger is has reached the extreme category. The resolution also has nothing to do with federal or state areas.
