Making Sense Out of the 5 IMSA Classes at the Rolex 24 at Daytona
Unless you happen to be a diehard, dedicated fan, multi-class racing can be a bit confusing.

Five classes of cars will compete on track at the same time at the Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona, January 30-31 at Daytona International Speedway.
The DPis have the drivers who may be the most familiar, including NASCAR seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson, current NASCAR Cup champ Chase Elliott, perennial IndyCar champ Scott Dixon, and fresh-from-Formula 1 Kevin Magnussen.
GT Daytona is the largest class with 19 entries, which are easily confused with GTLM cars, but it’s easy to memorize the six GTLM cars.
Emirati ace, Khaled Al Qubaisi, who won the event for a record-breaking third time in 2020 will also be present alongside Jeroen Bleekemolen and Hubert Haupt. His first win was in 2012 and then again in 2013.
Al Qubaisi, the only Emirati driver to have won the event outright and looking back on the achievement in 2012 stated, ‘At the time, I just I couldn’t believe what we’d managed to achieve, because it was on only my second attempt. It involved a bit of luck – winning in Dubai always does – but it was mostly down to our preparation, and working with the right team and the right car on the right strategy’

Jos Verstappen is open to entering the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his son Max Verstappen, but only if he can reach a good enough level.
Jos made 106 starts in his Formula 1 career across stints with Benetton, Simtek, Footwork, Tyrrell, Stewart, Arrows and Minardi, finishing on the podium twice.
His last appearance in the series came at the 2003 Japanese Grand Prix, though he went on to top the LMP2 class in the 2008 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of the Van Merksteijn Motorsport outfit alongside Peter van Merksteijn and Jeroen Bleekemolen.
