When Savian Kirton’s girlfriend returned to her Mount Vernon apartment and told him a man had just made sexual advances at her at the corner grocery store, it didn t take long for Kirton to react.
Within three minutes he was outside the store, stabbing Jermial Rose so forcefully in the neck that he killed him almost instantly.
Later that night, he was heard on police-car video mumbling that he was going to get 10 years.
For that split-second rage two years ago Kirton got much more. He was sentenced Monday to 18 years to life in prison, although the judge cited his intelligence and lack of a criminal record in not giving him an even harsher punishment.

Mount Vernon resident Savion Kiron, age 27, was convicted of murder last week in the first jury trial to take place in Westchester County Court since last fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Specifically, Kirton was convicted of second-degree murder for the June 2019 stabbing of Jermial Rose in the neck, resulting in his death. Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah said that the jury deliberated for 90 minutes before returning the guilty verdict.
