The MIAA has a variety of explosive offensives that test defenses in different ways. But after seeing the league one time through, Lincoln head coach Jermaine Gales and defensive coordinator Joseph Carter believe their defense is ready for the challenge this time around when the season opens at 7 p.m. today with a road matchup at No. 19 Emporia State. Now, the Blue Tiger defense has to go out and prove it.
The Lincoln Blue Tigers want to move the ball and move it quickly this season. After a slow start in Year 1 of the Jermaine Gales era, the Blue Tigers want to hit the ground running when the season opens at 7 p.m. today at No. 19 Emporia State. “We want to move the ball fast,” Gales said. “We want to play fast. We are going to tempo and we want to spread the ball around to the guys that are open.”
Lincoln redshirt sophomore quarterback Xzavier Vaughn was brought to Jefferson City last season to lead the Blue Tigers’ rebuild, but his season was cut short less than one half into the first contest.
But Vaughn enters this season at full strength, ready to accomplish what he was recruited to do and Lincoln couldn’t be more excited to have its starting quarterback returning.
The Lincoln Blue Tigers will get one last shot at getting in the win column this afternoon when they travel to take on the Missouri Western Griffons in MIAA football action. Despite rolling into the final week of the regular season, the Blue Tigers mentality remains the same.
The Lincoln Blue Tigers welcome another nationally ranked MIAA opponent to Dwight T. Reed Stadium today, as the 23rd-ranked Emporia State Hornets roll in on a five-game winning streak.
It is the home finale for the Blue Tigers as they are still searching for their elusive first victory of the season.
