Mum speaks out after daughter was stared at in Tesco

Eryn Margerison has mild cerebral palsy, which causes her to walk on her tiptoes. As part of her treatment, the eight-year-old, who lives at Hillcrest, in Whitehaven, has casts put on her legs to help keep her feet flat. Eryn’s mother, Kelly Margerison, said she was left “heartbroken”, after the pair went shopping in Whitehaven Tesco and her daughter noticed that she was being stared at by passers-by. Mrs Margerison said: “You could see everyone looking at Eryn. I could feel eyes looking and I just thought, I wonder how much Eryn notices people are looking. “As we were walking out the shop, I jokingly said to Eryn, ‘I think people think you’ve broken both your legs’.

Memories from Whitehaven s Jericho School

Flicking back through the photographs we found a school performance from back in 1976. Pupils obviously enjoy their sport and we found plenty of photos of teams that had travelled through to Carlisle to take part in the News & Star’s popular five-a-side football tournament over the years. But that’s not the only sport they take part in and we also found a picture of the team that were runners-up in a tag rugby tournament held at Egremont. Winning is obviously a habit at Jericho. Pupils in a French class won a prize with their design for a new Citroen 2CV while back in 2001 pupils won the Young Citizens’ Quiz Trophy.
