The Vancouver Park Board says it will take weeks to fully assess the damage sustained by parts of the seawall and the piers at Vanier Park and Jericho Beach during last week’s windstorm and king tide event.
Flooding and dangerous conditions along waterfronts around the South Coast resulted in closures, warnings and damage to infrastructure like seawalls and piers. Now communities are assessing the damage.

The Vancouver Park Board has just announced that part of the Stanley Park Seawall has been closed after last night s storm. Due to a king tide and high water levels, said the park board in a tweet, we have closed the Seawall from Lions Gate Bridge to Third Beach. We also advise the public to avoid paths along the shore between Jericho/Spanish Banks to Vanier, and Vanier to Stanley Park. Our teams are working hard to clear the debris.
The park board has also temporarily closed the Jericho Pier due to high water, strong waves, and impact from floating debris (logs).
