The State Fire Marshal’s Office today identified the deceased couple as Ralph Norris Wood, Jr., 78, and Peggy Wood, 77. They died in the blast at their home at 307 Pauline Lane.

The Union County Fire Department said the explosion happened at around 8 a.m. at a home off Pauline Lane in Blairsville. They said the home is totally destroyed and that other homes were also damaged.  State fire commissioner John King s office identified the dead Monday as 78-year-old Ralph Norris Wood Jr. and 77-year-old Peggy Wood. Autopsies were planned on both at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab in Atlanta.   Many nearby residents took to social media to say they felt and heard the blast miles away. NBC affiliate WYFF in Greenville, South Carolina, said neighbors reported feeling the blast 25 miles away.
