Among the exciting early pull requests to land in the new Linux 6.6 kernel cycle are some nice improvements to the IOmap code that should yield some substantive I/O benefits with this new kernel.
With the upcoming Linux 6.6 cycle another exciting change was recently queued up within the block subsystem's 'for-next' branch: IO uring futex/futexv support.
The folio project is not yet two years old,
but it has already resulted in
significant changes to the kernel s memory-management and filesystem
layers. While much work has been done, quite a bit remains. In the
opening plenary session at the 2022 Linux Storage,
Filesystem, Memory-management and BPF Summit, Matthew Wilcox provided
an update on the folio transition and led a discussion on the work that
remains to be done.

The bcachefs filesystem has been under
development for a number of years now; according to lead developer Kent
Overstreet, it is time to start talking about getting the code upstream.
He came to the 2018 Linux Storage, Filesystem, and Memory-Management Summit
(LSFMM) to discuss that in a combined filesystem and storage
session. Bcachefs grew out of bcache, which is a block layer
cache that was merged into Linux 3.10 in mid-2013.
