Im jr stone. 8 families have gotten the grim news that they did not want to hear, a loved one who died in the fire. But there are many other loved ones waiting to hear. Here is what we know so far, again, 33 bodies have been recovered from the burning building. The officials identified 8 victims. One of them a 17yearold. The officials have not officially released his name but we learned he is a San Francisco High School Student. Fire Officials Say 33 people confirmed dead, several appear to be between the ages of that 17yearold and their early 30s. Some of the victims are from other countries such as europe and asia and as of it this afternoon they had only gone through 40 of the building. A criminal investigation has been launched, we now know, by the
County Sheriffs Office. That will be taken to a secure location where well go through it a second time with cadaver dogs and other employees to review the debris, to make sure we have not missed one specific thing. Reporter among the 36 confirmed dead, at least three of the victims are from outside the united states, including korea, guatemala and finland. The assets brought in to help with the search and recovery effort include a giant crane but first pg e had to cut off power to the immediate area. At this point Officials Say 75 of the gutted structure has been searched, but there are two key areas where there still might be more bodies. Theres two areas of concern, the back area of the building where the stage was set, where the fire may have originated or front portion of the building where the roof initially clashed on people near the windows adjacent to 31st street. Lets go to Laura Anthony with the latest on the investigation. The search, officials now say, 33 of those had been identified and 22 families notified. The sheriff said there could be more victims inside of the building he does not expect that will be a large number. The charges could be murder to manslaughter. The District Attorney Nancy Omalley announced possible criminal charges in the fire that claimed the investigation will include individuals like the Building Owner and founder of the Art Collective as well as entities, up to, and including the city of oakland, charged with enforcing the building and safety codes many claim were violated before the fire. Scene. Investigators have the painstaking task of preserving evidence to analyze bucket by bucket. Thats being taken to different sites where its being preserved in a way that we will be able to go in with experts to analyze all those pieces of information. And we are going to run a cadaver dog through the debris as well. To make sure every part of this investigation is taking care of. Reporter safety concerns in the warehouse halted recovery operations since midnight last night. The building deemed too dangerous for work to continue. Heavy equipment has been brought in to shore up some of the unstable areas. Federal investigators believe the area of origin of the fire is located in the back end center part of the building.
