SSM Health hosts vaccine clinic for communities of color June 15, 2021 6:56 PM Grace Houdek SSM Health and volunteer vaccinators from The Sable Flames worked together to administer vaccines. The Sable Flames is an organization of African American firefighters in Dane County. Instead of operating ladders and water hoses, they picked up the needle to help vaccinate their community. Firefighters like Brandon Jones say it’s important now more than ever to get the vaccine and protect yourself and others “Although we’ve gotten this kinda strong hold on this disease, it’s not gone away so in order to prevent another surge and ultimately another lockdown let’s do our part and get vaccinated,” said Jones.

Once the shot is in your arm, health officials say the V-safe app puts the rest of the process into your own hands. “(We’re) at the start of the end,” said Jenna Teasdale, who works at the Wilderness Resort. She got her shot at an SSM Health mobile vaccine clinic in Wisconsin Dells Wednesday and said signing up for V-safe was equally simple. Vaccinators such as SSM Health give people papers with QR codes to sign up for the app after being vaccinated. “We pass these papers out. We really promote it,” said Jenny Bothun, regional manager for employee health at SSM, adding that health care workers really latched on to the app. “It provides another safety net of capturing that information.”
