During a public meeting on Wednesday, district leaders presented how they will transition to in-person learning over phases. Students in kindergarten through third grade will return to school buildings on March 15, followed by fourth to seventh grade and high school freshmen on March 22. Eighth graders and students in 10th to 12th grades return April 5. During public comment, one student identified as Jonathan, voiced concerns about the transition.

Doug Thaman, the executive director of the Missouri Charter Public School Association, said charter schools aren’t getting their fair share of property taxes. “There are local lines of funding that were left out of state law, and a portion of property tax is locked in at a rate that is from 2005, so going on 16 years,” Thaman said. MCPSA estimates charters receive about $1,000 less per pupil than traditional public schools as a result.
