Public safety communications officers, commonly know as 911 dispatchers, play a vital role in protecting the life and property of Barton County citizens, a role only heightened during the COVID-19 pandemic. That is the crux of a proclamation adopted by the County Commission Monday morning marking this as National Public Safety Communications Officers Week.

Commission observes Colon Cancer Awareness Month Personal stories drive home importance of testing Sheriff Brian Bellendir Barton County Commissioner Jennifer Schartz, who lost her son Dane to the colon cancer, and Sheriff Brian Bellendir, who recovered from the disease, offered their personal experiences as the commission Monday morning approved a proclamation marking March as Colon Cancer Awareness Month. “I was fortunate, I survived,” Bellendir said. Although he underwent intensive treatment, his case was caught early enough to prevent it from being worse.

They will offer 300 second doses from 10 a.m. to noon, and 400 first doses starting at 2 p.m. If there are any of the second doses left over, they will be rolled over into the afternoon for first doses.
