COVENTRY â Once again, the Fiscal Year 2021 budget presented to voters in Coventry was defeated this week â and this time, it looks like level funding will stick.
Just 2,464, or around 9 percent, of Coventryâs some 25,000 registered voters turned out for Thursdayâs all-day referendum, with 1,159 voting for the proposed $109.2 million budget and 1,305 opposing it.Â
On the municipal side, the proposed additional $225,000 in local appropriations would have supported a few new positions, as well as overdue raises for non-union employees. While Interim Town Manager Ed Warzycha said Tuesday that the town would be OK without that additional funding, he added that Coventry Public Schools would struggle were it to be denied the extra $1.2 million that the proposed budget had allocated for it.
COVENTRY â Since Gary Coteâs resignation last month from the Coventry Town Council, the District 4 seat has been empty. A special election to fill that open position is being arranged for early May, Interim Town Manager Ed Warzycha said this week, with a tentative primary date scheduled in April.Â
The earliest that an election could be held to fill the vacancy is April 6, Warzycha said during Mondayâs town council meeting. If necessary, a primary in that case would take place March 2. However, with a statewide bond referendum also scheduled for that date, the state Board of Elections suggested the town delay its special election.Â

On Monday, a leader of a Colorado town s Republican group began posting the names and home addresses of public health employees, apparently in response to COVID-19 restrictions.
Mark Hall, lead co-chair of the Parker Republicans, posted the information about two Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment officials on his personal Facebook page on Monday night, then shared the post in a Facebook group that he created, according to 9 News. Every day in our group I ll be posting the name and address of unelected, non-law enforcement officers who think they can flex muscles in businesses. We’ll see how strong they are at their homes, Hall reportedly wrote in a since-deleted post.

Earlier this year in Douglas County, C&C Café made national headlines after the owners defied a statewide stay-at-home order and opened the restaurant for in-person dining on Mothers’ Day. The Tri-County Health Department ordered the restaurant to close and the state of Colorado later temporarily revoked the restaurant s license. Months later the owners permanently closed the restaurant.
