‘Living into our humanity’: An interview with Jennifer Herdt Jennifer Herdt is the Gilbert L. Stark Professor of Christian Ethics at Yale Divinity School and, for the past eight years, Senior Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. At the end of the academic year, her service in administration comes to an end and she returns to fulltime faculty duties. YDS sat down with Prof. Herdt to discuss curriculum and teaching changes during the year of crises, as well as her research on ethical formation and the insights gained from her administrative experience.   It has been over a year since the pandemic hit and changed, seemingly, everything. How has this historic event changed the YDS curriculum? Have you or your faculty colleagues created any new courses or changed existing courses to address the pandemic directly or indirectly?

I’m tempted to close my eyes to the painful view that we are becoming our own worst enemies. However, in conversation and when I encounter the daily news, some words come up again and again as insistent reminders of the worst side of the human condition. Among them are Sept. 11, Jan. 6, terrorism, racism, QAnon, white supremacy, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, far right, far left, and the nuclear bomb clock. Do not these images confirm “the beast in man (sic) let loose?”

Christian ethicists issue Cabinet Statement calling for Trump’s removal MT. ROYAL, N. J. During the Virtual Annual Meeting of the Society of Christian Ethics today, the organization’s presidential cabinet issued a statement calling for the lawful removal of President Donald Trump from office. Members of the society, the principal organization for Christian ethicists in the United States, have been invited to sign the statement, which at this time has garnered 245 signatures.
