Jefferson Hospital nurse becomes first staff member to receive COVID-19 vaccine
FOX 29 s Lauren Johnson spoke with Jennifer Gil about her experience getting the COVID-19 vaccination.
PHILADELPHIA - A Jefferson University Hospital nurse on Wednesday morning became one of the first people in Philadelphia to receive the coronavirus vaccine, signaling the start of the city s effort to inoculate more than 1 million people.
Nurse Jennifer Gil said she felt great after receiving the Pfizer-Biontech vaccine, and was excited and honored to be the first Jefferson Hospital staff member to receive the vaccine. It means a lot, I think it s a sign of hope, Gil said. We still need to do the guidelines - wear a mask, social distance - our work continues, but I think it s a sign things are going to get better and we all just need to do our part.

PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) Healthcare workers at Philadelphia hospitals began receiving coronavirus vaccinations on Wednesday morning. I knew I was going to get the vaccine as soon as I can. I didn t know it was going to be this quick, said emergency room nurse Jennifer Gil at Jefferson University Hospital.
Gil was one of the first healthcare workers at Jefferson to receive Pfizer s coronavirus vaccine.
Gil was diagnosed with COVID-19 back in March. Not only did she want to get the vaccine herself, but she looks forward to wider distribution. I think it is important for not only nurses to do it, for the whole community, but also minorities. I think there s also a huge disparity and a stigma for especially Latinos, so it was an honor to kind of do that and get vaccinated right away, Gil explained.

PHILADELPHIA - Wednesday will mark a monumental day in Philadelphia s fight against the coronavirus pandemic as a select number of healthcare workers will roll up their sleeves to receive the first shot of the two-dose Pfizer-Biontch vaccine.
More than 13,500 doses were divided among Philadelphia-area hospitals with the appropriate freezing-cold storage, according to city health officials. Philadelphia expects thousands more doses in the coming days in order to continue the first wave of vaccinations.
Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia administered its first vaccination around 7:30 a.m. and planned to use it s 3,000 dose allotment to vaccinate employees through the afternoon, according to hospital officials.
