Grand Targhee announces current and upcoming construction projects

This week Grand Targhee Resort put out the word about some major projects in the works on and off the mountain, with the cost totaling over $20 million in investment.  Aside from the installation of the new Blackfoot lift in 2017, the resort has seen little in the way of large-scale capital improvements or big base upgrades. That changed this winter as construction began on the large equipment maintenance facility on Forest Service land; the old facility roof collapsed under snow in 2019, forcing base and mountain operations to make do in temporary spaces. The new 13,000 sq. ft. structure is home to state-of-the-art systems and equipment, said resort marketing director Jennie White. The resort also purchased two new grooming machines.

Barnard castle s historic Pittuck Mural is full restored

LOOKING GOOD: Restoration experts Cedric Charleof and Luke Jordan BARNARD Castle’s Pittuck Mural has been fully restored – and will be on view when St Mary’s Parish Hall reopens next month. Restoration experts Luke Jordan and Cedric Charleof worked throughout the Covid-19 lockdown to restore the artwork, which was painted by former Barnard Castle School art teacher Douglas Pittuck onto the east wall of the parish hall in 1959. A campaign to raise cash for the mural’s restoration began two years ago after it had become damaged by water seeping through the wall and roof. The experts completed their work last week.

Letters: New Brompton bridge must be half a metre above highest recorded flood level

Brompton bridge WITH regard to the article on page 2 of last week’s Darlington and Stockton Times “Search for funding to replace village bridge” I would like to take this opportunity to update residents of Brompton and users of the village green at Water End, Brompton about the footway bridge closure. A flood risk assessment is currently taking place and the town council will shortly be submitting a planning application for a new bridge. Residents will be consulted on the new bridge through to the normal planning process. The new bridge however will be different in appearance from the existing bridge due to health and safety and other modern requirements but will be sympathetic to the surroundings.

Jennie joins group to iron out A66 issues

10 Feb 2021 ROAD CAMPAIGNER: Jennie White A RESIDENT who highlighted how the A66 dualling project could lead to traffic problems in Startforth has agreed to join a new group which aims to address future concerns associated with the scheme. Jennie White accepted Startforth Parish Council s invitation to join a local community liaison group which is being set up by Highways England, the agency responsible for the A66 project. Late last year, Ms White voiced concerns that changes to the layout and junctions of the A66 could lead to a large increase in traffic travelling through the village on the narrow B6277, posing a risk to pedestrians and adding to congestion at the County Bridge traffic lights.
