COVID-19 News: Local businesses receive funding to expand online presence

  TINY TWP., ONT. In the spring of 2020, two Tiny Township farmers created an online store and delivery service offering local goods. They dubbed it Farm 2 Door. The virtual farmers market helps connect local businesses with customers. Since the start of the pandemic, the federal and provincial governments have invested more than $3 million in the agri-food sector to help businesses establish or bolster their online presence. In the Simcoe North region, seven businesses received a slice of the pie, including Borrow Family Farm, Fairhope Farm, Carter Farms, Rama Community Farm and Georgian Chocolate Company. It s really just bringing opportunities directly to our doorsteps and allows us to continue on business and even grow business during these times, says Jenna Green, co-founder of Georgian Chocolate Company.

Apr 20, 2021 SOUTHINGTON James J. Green, 57, died early Sunday morning, April 18, 2021, with his family by his side, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. He was born Jan. 10, 1964, in Warren, the son of Nelson C. and Mary Elizabeth Martorana Green. Jim was a 1982 graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School and was employed as a plastics injection mold supervisor for various companies, most recently Sajar Plastics in Middlefield. He enjoyed cooking, the outdoors, hunting, fishing and was a remote controlled airplane enthusiast. Jim was also the 1976 Trumbull County Soap Box Derby winner and went on to place sixth in the All American Soap Box Derby in Akron. Jim’s greatest joy was spending quality time with his family, especially his children, of whom he was so proud. He had a heart of gold and was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Jim was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Division News. Dec. 30, 2020  CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Applications are now being accepted for the FY21 Rural Youth Engagement through Public Art Grant from the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History (WVDACH) and the West Virginia Commission on the Arts (WVCA). Approximately $65,000 in grants will be awarded. Deadline for receipt of applications is Feb. 1, 2021. Eligible projects will take place in communities with less than 25,000 residents and will engage local youth. Schools, not for profit youth groups, not for profit arts organizations, and local governments are eligible to apply. Funded projects must be completed by June 30, 2021.
