Odinga s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) had earlier insisted Kibaki must resign before talks could take place. The apparent olive branch came as new figures revealed the humanitarian cost of a week-long spate of violence. According to the United Nations, some 250,000 Kenyans are now estimated to have been displaced by rioting and looting that accompanied the result of the Dec. 27 election. The U.N. said that in total, between 400,000 and 500,000 people had been affected by the unrest. Around 300 people are reported to have died. The ODM accused the president of election fraud.

His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the 5th President of Ghana’s 4th Republic and was sworn into office for a second term on January 7, 2021.
As a lawyer, he undertook many important constitutional cases which protected the independence of the judiciary, the right of the citizen to demonstrate without a police permit, and the right of equal access of all political parties to the State-owned media.
President Akufo-Addo has held numerous positions in Ghana. He was a three term Member of Parliament (1997-2008). He also served as Attorney General and Minister for Justice (2001-2003) and as Minister for Foreign Affairs (2003-2007), both under the government of the former President of the Republic of Ghana, HE John Agyekum Kufuor.

However, its decisions, presented on 13 April 2002, remain unimplemented, constituting a flagrant violation of fundamental international law, calling into question the moral authority of several international organizations, serving as a serious impediment to peace and development in the Horn of Africa, and leading to the destabilization of the region through contributing to unnecessary rivalry, tension, conflict, and insecurity.
