Becoming a dad has given Brown a new perspective on his track career | iNFOnews

Lori Ewing Canadian sprinter Aaron Brown, of Toronto, smiles while responding to questions after a news conference for the Harry Jerome International Track Classic, in Vancouver, on Monday June 25, 2018. THE CANADIAN PRESS/Darryl Dyck May 21, 2021 - 5:09 AM Aaron Brown has always seen his track career as being about something bigger than himself. He didn t run for personal glory, he ran for his family, his coach, his Canadian teammates and his sponsors. But becoming a dad brought even greater perspective to his sport. Now it s just kind of magnified, right? Brown said. Because above all that, now I m running for my son, not only to provide, but also set an example of what s possible, to show him you can grow up and dream and aim for high goals, just because that s what your father was doing.

Decathlete Damian Warner says being a dad has brought balance and new perspective | iNFOnews

Lori Ewing Damian Warner, of Canada bronze, smiles during the medal ceremony for the decathlon at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, Friday, Oct. 4, 2019.  THE CANADIAN PRESS/AP-Nariman El-Mofty May 05, 2021 - 2:25 PM Damian Warner says becoming a dad has made him appreciate his mom that much more. The Olympic decathlon bronze medallist and longtime partner Jen Cotten, a former national team hurdler, welcomed son Theo on March 11, and the whirlwind few weeks as bleary-eyed new parents had Warner reflecting on his own childhood on Wednesday. I ve always been super appreciative, but my mom raised me, my brother and my sister, just essentially by herself, and that couldn t have been easy, Warner said of his mom Brenda, who often held down two nursing jobs in long-term care homes to support them.

Decathlete Damian Warner says being a dad has brought balance and new perspective

I ve always been super appreciative, but my mom raised me, my brother and my sister, just essentially by herself, and that couldn t have been easy, Warner said of his mom Brenda, who often held down two nursing jobs in long-term care homes to support them. Me and Jen, we have my mom s help, and Jen s mom s help. Everybody s helped. So, it s tough to understand what my mom would have had to go through. It s been a roller-coaster year for the 31-year-old Warner. COVID-19 brought international competition to a screeching halt last spring particularly for Canadian athletes facing tight travel restrictions and then forced the closure of Warner s indoor training facility at Western University in London, Ont.
