Hong Kong fund manager Value Partners Group’s outlook for the year is bright, with strong demand for its China equity funds, according to some market participants, after the company last week announced better-than-expected profits in 2020.
Net profit rose more than three-fold to HK$1.38 billion (US$176.9 million) last year from HK$513 million in 2019, Value Partners said on March 11.
There were substantial redemptions from its funds in the first quarter of 2020 when markets plunged as the coronavirus pandemic spread rapidly around the world, but net capital flows recovered strongly in the second half of the year as global central banks eased monetary policy, says Jemmy Huang, equity research associate at J.P. Morgan Securities (Asia Pacific).
