PHC stops tax collection from Askari Cement

PESHAWAR: The two-member bench of Peshawar High Court (PHC) comprising of Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Nasir Mehfooz stopped Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) from receiving Urban Immovable Property Tax from Askari Cement.
The counsel for the petitioner, Ishaq Ali Qazi, informed the bench that Askari Cement Factories were located in rural areas of the Jehangira TMA of the Nowshera district.
He argued that the august court had decided that the government shall notify urban and rural areas before the imposition of the tax.

TAXILA: Two brothers who shot their sister dead were arrested by Hazro police on Wednesday.
Police said both suspects committed the crime on Aug 12 and later escaped. They were declared proclaimed offenders by a local court. Acting on a tip off, police raided their hideout in Jehangira town of KP and arrested them, following which they also confessed their crime.
In a separate move, the same police raided a gambling den in village Syedan near Hattain and arrested eight persons while they were gambling.
Stake money amounting to Rs8,000 and gambling tools were also confiscated.
Meanwhile, Hassanabdal police foiled a narcotics smuggling attempt and arrested two persons.
