Heated School Board Election in May – Debates Set - The Corvallis Advocate

Heated School Board Election in May – Debates Set April 21, 2021 May brings school board elections in odd numbered years. The last cycle, everyone ran unopposed, but this is 2021, and there are nine candidates heatedly vying for four seats.  Fortunately, voters will have two opportunities to see the candidates compete in moderated debates this month – the first is an informal town hall style CitySpeak Forum that welcomes questions from the public, and the second is a classic formal debate. Both are free, and available online.  The  , Tuesday, April 27  The debate starts at 6:30 p.m., and can be accessed on The Advocate’s website or Facebook page. It’s presented by the newspaper, and City Club of Corvallis. Viewers can submit questions before and during the forum by emailing cityspeak@corvallisadvocate.com, messaging the paper on social media, or just posting questions on one of the social media posts for the event.  

Benton County Appoints Van Arsdall as Interim Sheriff - The Corvallis Advocate

Benton County Appoints Van Arsdall as Interim Sheriff January 21, 2021 Benton County commissioners voted unanimously (3-0) today to appoint current Baker County Undersheriff Jefri Van Arsdall to fill the position of Interim Benton County Sheriff for the remainder of Sheriff Scott Jackson’s current term.  Van Arsdall’s appointment is contingent on his meeting all the requirements to be Benton County Sheriff, which includes passing an extensive background check. The background check can take up to three weeks to complete. During the interim between Sheriff Jackson’s departure and Van Arsdall’s background check completion, Benton County Undersheriff Greg Ridler will act in-capacity as Benton County Sheriff.
