Columbia police arrest 2017 homicide suspect COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) Columbia police arrested a suspect in the December 2017 home invasion homicide and robbery of a Columbia man. On Monday, police arrested Jeffrey McWilliams, 28, for second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. Columbia police responded after 3:30 a.m. on Dec. 11, 2017, for a suspicious person in the 1900 block of Lasso Circle. Once on scene, police found Augustus Roberts, 28, unconscious and not breathing. Medical personnel on the scene later pronounced Roberts dead. According to the release, investigators believed this home invasion was drug-related and this residence was targeted by the suspects. Details on why police suspect McWillaims remain slim Tuesday night. Charges have not been publicly filed against McWilliams and a probable cause statement is unavailable until that happens.

COLUMBIA - Columbia Police announced Tuesday they arrested a suspect allegedly involved in the 2017 homicide of Augustus Roberts. Police say they arrested Columbia resident Jeffrey McWilliams, 28, for the charges of second degree murder, first degree robbery and armed criminal action.  Jeffrey McWilliams According to previous reporting, McWilliams identified himself to KOMU 8 News as an owner of McLank s, a restaurant located off of Paris Road in Columbia. In August 2019, KOMU 8 News spoke with McWilliams after he said vandals had thrown rocks and a potted plant through one of McLank s windows.  We don t have any problems with anybody, McWilliams said in 2019. Starting Wednesday, businesses in Columbia will be able to set their own guidelines on masks and social distancing.  Boone County Health Director Stephanie Browning and Columbia Mayor Brian Treece announced last week that the city would not extend the current health order after it expires at 11:59 a.m. on May 12. This is due to declining COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.  The Columbia/Boone County Health Department said it will give recommendations rather than orders.  “Wearing masks, social distancing, and avoiding mass gatherings are still the best ways to keep our loved ones safe, Browning said at the briefing last week. We ll keep working on education and vaccination.
