WESTERLY â The new owner of Wells Block/Marini Building at the intersection of High and Broad streets plans to convert the top two floors into apartments and hopes to have the units available later this year when the weather turns warm.
Jeffrey Grybowski bought the building, which was once home to McCormick s Department Store, in September. The former chief executive officer of Deepwater Wind said he started looking for a property to buy after visiting the downtown area last summer. I walked around and was really struck by how awesome a downtown it is, Grybowski said during a recent interview.
RI Commerce board approves incentives for Pawtucket, Westerly projects

The Rhode Island Commerce Corporation on Monday unanimously approved a $3.75-million state tax credit for a new distribution center in Pawtucket and a separate $143,200 tax credit for a multi-use renovation project in Westerly.
Both credits were approved under the Rebuild Rhode Island program and are available when the projects are completed.
In Pawtucket, JK Equities LLC, of Long Island, New York, plans a $20.1-million, 162,000-square-foot distribution center on 10 acres at 1 Moshassuck St., off Route 95. The developer will invest $4.2 million in equity in the project, according to a presentation to the board. No lender has yet been named for the project.
